Week 1 August 11-12:
7th Grade Science:
Thursday we will mostly discuss class policies and procedures. Be looking for the class syllabus; I am sending a copy home with them. Friday we have a really fun space themed activity planned (I don't want to give it away). The activity fits with the theme "Leadership is out of this world!"
8th Grade Science:
Same as 7th grade!
Week 2 August 15-19:
7th Grade Science:
We will be testing our marshmallow landers on Monday and discussing the process of engineering. Students need to have ALL their supplies for class Tuesday as we will be setting up our Science binders. Wednesday we will take our Unit 1 pre-test over Matter and begin our Matter posters. We will spend Thursday and Friday working on the Matter posters.
8th Grade Science:
We will test our marshmallow landers during class and make revisions. We will then discuss the process of engineering. Students need to have ALL their supplies for class Tuesday as we will be setting up our Science binders. Wednesday we will take our Unit 1 pre-test over Scientific Inquiry and then discuss lab safety. We will spend Thursday and Friday on Science Chat (gives students an idea of how different lab stations will work this year).
Week 3 August 22-26:
7th Grade Science:
Monday we will be finishing our matter posters. Our big focus this week is making sure students understand what matter IS and IS NOT. Matter has mass and volume (it takes up space). Matter is NOT energy (light, sound). Tuesday we will download our online textbooks to our computers and assign Class Jobs. Wednesday we will take some notes over our vocab and I will teach some gestures (this vocab can be tough to remember). Thursday we will do a lab over mass. Friday we will do a lab over volume.
8th Grade Science:
Monday we will review lab safety and take a lab safety quiz. Students must pass the quiz and turn in their lab safety contract to do labs. Tuesday we will spend half the class on our Science Chat Lab and the other half discussing testable questions. Wednesday we will continue working on Testable Questions and start variables. Thursday we will work on writing a hypothesis. Friday we will do a lab to help tie in testable questions, variables, and hypothesis. Then if time allows, we will take a quiz.
