October 31-November 3:
7th Grade Science:
Monday we will do a short review and then take a quiz. Tuesday we will complete a separating mixtures lab. Students will receive a review sheet and will be shown how to access the review slide show. Wednesday we will do a chromatography lab and review for the summative. Thursday we will take the summative test. Friday there is no school.
8th Grade Science:
Monday we will start several labs using microscopes. To do the labs students had to complete their microscope notes. Tuesday we will take a quiz over the parts of the microscope and then finish our microscope labs. Wednesday and Thursday will be spent introducing the environment mystery.
November 7-11:
7th Grade Science:
NO SCHOOL MONDAY OR TUESDAY.
Wednesday we finished the pre-test & summative. We also filled out re-assessment agreements. Students were given a notes page titled "Bitesize Particles" which was assigned as homework. Thursday students were given time to organize their binders. We then went over how to fill out the re-assessment agreement and students were told the have until Thanksgiving to re-assess on Unit 2. Then they were given time to work on "Bitesize Particles," they were reminded that whatever was not finished is homework. Students had the rest of the hour to work on their group project over the kinetic theory and states of matter. Friday had a short schedule and students spent half of class working on the group project and the other half watching a video about the kinetic theory.
8th Grade Science:
NO SCHOOL MONDAY OR TUESDAY.
Wednesday students started class reading an article about air pollution. I then introduced some characters from our environment mystery. Thursday students went through the chlorine files searching for clues. Friday we discussed the information they found in the chlorine files and students were given the daphnia prelab.
November 14-18:
7th Grade Science:
Monday I will do some demonstrations showing the kinetic theory (food dye moving through different temperatures of water). Then students will start their group project presentations. Tuesday we will review the kinetic theory and states of matter and take a quiz. Wednesday we will review our states of matter vocab and start the tri-fold project. Thursday we will work on the tri-fold project.
8th Grade Science:
Monday we will complete the daphnia lab to see how chlorine affect microorganisms. Students will also read an article on Synchrony City. Tuesday students will read about acid rain and we will look at some evidence for our environment mystery. Wednesday we will continue our study of acid rain and perform some tests. Thursday we will have a guest speaker. Friday we will wrap up our exploration of acid rain and predict which suspect we think is guilty of killing the fish.
November 21-22:
7th Grade Science:
Monday students will be taking a quiz. Tuesday we will do a review activity and some lab demos. Students will receive a copy of the study guide. The summative for Unit 3 will be next Tuesday.
8th Grade Science:
Monday we will review for our quiz using quizizz and then take the quiz. When students are done they will read an article in Canvas and create a slide about what they learned. Tuesday we will discuss deforestation and introduce our newest suspect in our environmental mystery. We might have time for the sediment lab, it just depends on how long the lesson over deforestation takes.
