October 3-7:
7th Grade Science:
Monday we will take a pre-test. Tuesday we will discuss the procedures for re-assessing after a summative. Wednesday will be a catch-up day. Any students that has not finished the summative or pre-test will take that during class. We will also be working on a Periodic Table search to help us get familiar with using the Periodic Table. Students who have all those activities completed will use the Periodic Table to create a name plate. Thursday we will talk about atoms and elements and Friday we will take a short iAssignment.
8th Grade Science:
*Last week to re-assess on Scientific Inquiry
Monday and Tuesday we will work on our biomes projects. Wednesday students will turn in their biomes projects and watch the Lorax to identify the parts of the biome and analyze the impact humans had on the biome. Thursday and Friday we will focus on food chains, food webs, and energy pyramids.
October 10-14:
7th Grade Science:
Monday we will start our "Name that Element" projects. Students will select an element to research and then create a document that have 5 interesting clues/facts. We will use those clues to help us guess the element. Tuesday we will examine the history of the atom and Wednesday we will look at the history of the Periodic Table. Thursday our "Name that Element" projects are due and we will take a short iAssignment. Friday is a half day and students will not come to Science.
*Project due Thursday *Quiz on Thursday *Half Day Friday
8th Grade Science:
Monday we will review for the food chains/food webs iAssignment. We will devote most of our time to constructing a food web. Tuesday we will take an iAssignment and students will start energy pyramids. Wednesday we will have a class lesson on energy pyramids. Thursday we will take a quiz over energy pyramids. Friday is a half day and students will not come to Science.
October 17-21:
7th Grade Science:
Monday I will introduce compounds. Tuesday we will examine the differences between elements and compounds. Wednesday we will do an activity that shows the differences between elements, compounds, and mixtures. Thursday we will do an activity with food and ave students create their own models of compounds and mixtures. We need donations to do this activity: skittles, m&m's, frosting, cereals, marshmallows, etc. Friday we will take a quiz.
8th Grade Science:
Monday and Tuesday we will focus on adaptations and how they help organisms survive in their habitat. Wednesday we will focus on limiting factors. Thursday we will look at the carbon cycle. Friday we will take a quiz.
October 24-28:
7th Grade Science:
Monday students will work on their compounds project. Tuesday will be a catch-up day; students can work on their Element slides or the compounds project. Wednesday we will do our food projects from the previous week. Thursday we will review pure substances and identifying compounds, elements, and mixtures. Friday we will most likely take a quiz.
8th Grade Science:
Monday we will have a work day so students can spend time filling out their study guides. Tuesday we will start the summative. Wednesday we will finish the summative and take a pre-test. Thursday we will make a foldable about microscopes to help prepare us for our microscope lab next week. Friday students will read an article to introduce the content from our new Unit.
*Students will have until November 22nd to come in and re-assess on any unmastered standards from Unit 2.
